An airfoil provides aerodynamic force when interacting with what?

Moving stream of air

An airfoil generates aerodynamic force because of its interaction with a moving stream of air. When air flows past the wing, the shape and angle cause the flow to speed up over the top surface and, relative to the wing, slow down under the bottom. This creates a pressure difference: lower pressure above and higher pressure below, which produces lift. The essential point is relative wind—the wing experiences air in motion either because the aircraft is moving forward or the air is moving past a stationary wing. In quiet or static air, there isn’t the required airflow to generate that pressure distribution, so the aerodynamic force is essentially absent. Grounded air isn’t the right condition for producing lift; it’s the presence of a moving airstream that matters.so, the airfoil interacts with a moving stream of air.
